Freeside Atlanta presented at Maker’s Monday this week. Freeside Atlanta is a non-profit organization that strives to provide a space that inspires collaboration, creativity, teaching, and open projects for the Atlanta community. This was a great opportunity to get some help with your projects and meet some great people.

Here’s what you need to include in your application:

• Description of your awesome project!
• Bill of materials for every part you want to order, up to $250 total
• Timeline for your project with detailed milestones (including a “midterm” presentation to Makers Monday at April 8 6PM)
• Personal info (past projects, experiences, skills)
• Show that you can finish your project in a semester!
• Names of all your group members (remember, groups must be at least two people and include one undergraduate lab instructor)

Email applications to Xo Wang (president@inventionstudio.org) by the deadline. The applications will have their names stripped and voted on by members of the Makers Club.

Grants will be paid out by reimbursement of personal purchases. It’s very unlikely that you’ll get all of the money right away; to get the whole grant, you’ll have to make a 10-minute presentation at Milestone Monday (April 8) or an earlier Makers Monday meeting about your project, presenting your progress and showing that you need the rest of the parts.

This week’s Maker’s Monday featured Chad Ramey in a presentation titled “Arduino 101″.

Chad gave us an overview of the Arduino’s layout and functionality. Then he ran through three introductory projects that can be done by anyone who is just starting out with an Arduino.
In his demonstration he prepared code and a breadboard that made an LED blink automatically, blink on command, and fade on and off.

We thank Chad for his very informative presentation!

Hunter Scott gave a presentation on the many projects he has worked on throughout high school and college. He shared his successes, failures, lessons learned, and even gave us some insight into his recent experience with working for a start up company.

New Room (Design Studio)
We have a new room! It is located behind the lounge where the computer cluster was and currently has tables in it. There will be computers as well as the newly ordered 3D printers. This room is still under development and will be available for use soon.
