XR

The Extended Reality (XR) Tool Group hosts a variety of headsets to empower your creativity and enable the immersive creation and visualization of your prototypes and 3D projects.

For your virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) needs, we host multiple Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro headsets. Additionally, if you need a cutting-edge headset with true-to-life visuals, we offer a Varjo XR-3 by special request. For your alternate reality (AR) applications, we host over a dozen Microsoft HoloLens 2 headsets.

3D Scanning Tools

If you need an object 3D scanned within sub-millimeter accuracy, we offer an EinScan Pro HD structured-light scanner with texture capture capabilities. Contact us to find out if your part is compatible with our scanner.

For large-scale scanning of rooms and building interiors, we offer a Matterport Pro2 camera by special request. To get an idea of this scanner’s capabilities, watch this VR tour overview video of the Invention Studio:

Software

Our standalone headsets come pre-equipped with a variety of software, allowing for immersive 3D creation and collaboration, with applications in both work and play.

The XR Tool Group has experience working with Unity for PCVR, Quest, and HoloLens applications. We also have experience with various CAD software and Blender for cleaning up 3D scans.

Access

The XR space is temporarily located in MRDC Room 3321, which is found above the Invention Studio and down the hall. Due to current circumstances, the space is only accessible during Masters hours, by request, or if the door is open and you have training on the equipment.
